The fear of failure

the fear of failure The fear of failure

I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed – Michael Jordan

Fear has this ability to suck the life right out of people. No one likes to fail and the emotion that comes from it is down right debilitating.

But you can’t let the fear of failure control your life. The more that fear has control over you, the more your life isn’t yours. You’ll never take the necessary steps to reach your goals.

You’ll be afraid to take risks and you’ll be afraid of what you can be.

Failing is a part of life and it’s a very important part that you should welcome.

Why? because failing allows you to:

  • Learn from your mistakes
  • Improve in the areas in which you failed
  • and do it right the next time.

In order to learn and grow as an individual, you have to fail. there’s no way around it. The quicker you internalize and accept that, the quicker you can overcome it.

Hey J!

I personally see failure as a stepping stone. We can fail, but in the process we eliminate a future obstacle if we're willing to learn from our dealings. Seeing failure in this light helps me be a winner, even in defeat.

Great stuff J!

JK!

You're right, the only way that failure can be a stepping stone is if we are willing to learn from it. If a person doesn't then they are highly likely to repeat the same mistake.

Turns into a vicious cycle of mediocrity.

Hi Jeremy,

You started this post off with a great example and quote. Michael Jordan is probably one of the most recognized symbols of mastering his sport. Yet, basketball wasn't even his first love or best sport growing up.

Thanks for the great lessons.

Bryce

Hey Bryce,

As always, thanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughts.

You bring up a great point about basketball not being Jordan's #1 sport growing up. In fact, he's been cut before.

Imagine that, arguably the best basketball player ever has actually been cut before. He is human. The fact is, he didn't allow the fear of failing stop him from doing what he wanted to do.

Each time he failed he learned from it.

That's what we should all strive to do!
