Releasing YOU Today: A Conversation With Deeone Higgs [Part 2]

deeone higgs Releasing YOU Today: A Conversation With Deeone Higgs [Part 2]

This is part 2 of my conversation with Deeone Higgs the blogger behind Releasing Me Today. If you missed it, checkout part 1 in this series.

J: The funny thing about blogs is that if you take all the blog posts written and put them together, it’s basically a book. I definitely agree that blogging is great practice and developing a book is made easier as a result.

So, let’s have a little bit of fun. What has been the funniest thing you’ve come across while blogging over at RMT? Could be anything from a funny comment or a funny post…anything!

D: That’s a good question, Jeremy! That may definitely require me to think about that one for a minute.

(several minutes later) Haha

Let’s see. For me, blogging in itself is funny. I mean, I understand that for some people this is their bread and butter, but the seriousness that some people take blogging… well, you just have to laugh at it. I try to remind myself daily not to take it serious anymore than I have too. Know what I mean?

If it works out that I’m doing this for a living, which is somewhat a goal of mine, I hope that I don’t become an overly anal retentive type blogger. I will strive for nothing more than to keep my sunny side up personality. But you asked about what I think is the funniest thing I’ve come across on RMT, didn’t you? icon biggrin Releasing YOU Today: A Conversation With Deeone Higgs [Part 2] I got sidetracked a bit, sorry about that.

Since I am constantly writing on such serious topics that often don’t have any humor in them whatsoever, I try to curve some of my own personality into them and make lightly of a lot of the things I write about. It might be dry humor or not really funny to some people, but I try to throw in little things that I would say in my normal every day to day life.

Take my post “Stay in your Lane, Boo”. I could have very well left it at “Stay in your lane”, but anybody that knows me personally know that I can be… a bit colorful when it comes to what I call people. I mean nothing by it, it’s simply the way that I am and how I speak normally.

A couple of my other favorite “pet names”, I’m sure you’ve seen them in my tweets or statuses; are “Chica”, “Bud”, “Mate”, “Whoady”, “Comrade”, the list goes on… anything really that gives me a personality online I’ll try it. If someone gets offended by it, I would hope they would tell me. I’m a big boy. All I mean by that is, I’m not to proud that I won’t apologize.

If you were to meet me in public, you’d more than likely see that I have the same BIG personality that I portray online. I love to have fun. I love people. I also love to make people feel the emotion of happiness.

I try to lace most of my life lessons with humor as well. And I encourage humor in my comments. Laughter is such an important part to the Release; there’s actually a part in my About Page that reads:

“I love to smile and laugh, and I think its an important element to release oneself from the seriousness of life. So you should look to crack a smile – and bust a gut at some point upon your visit here as well.

Why even include that in a blog that focuses on letting go and release? It’s just really good to laugh! That’s why. If you can’t laugh at life… then there’s another reason to click that white “X”(in the right hand corner of your screen).”

My About Page is spurring with my personality, or at least that’s what I was going for. icon smile Releasing YOU Today: A Conversation With Deeone Higgs [Part 2]

J: I love that you take your real life personality and fuse into the online world. Not many people do that…at least from what I read. For whatever reason, people struggle to make the connection between their real self and their blog. That’s why the fact that you are yourself and you don’t hide behind your blog (so to speak) is so refreshing; you put yourself out there.

Great quality to have. No fear.

Honestly, if you didn’t include the “boo” part at the end of your post title it wouldn’t be as strong as it is. So glad you kept that. When I read the title I had to laugh, which is great of course! (laughter) Other bloggers (including myself) should take note. Creativity wins.

Getting back to mindset talk.

As you know, I talk a lot about the entrepreneurial mindset and how people can fuse those key ingredients into their lives to aid in accomplishing what they want in life.

I have to ask you because with your unique experiences I feel that you will know exactly how it benefits a person. In your opinion, what does the entrepreneurial mindset mean to you?

D: Here’s the thing I keep in mind when it comes to the entrepreneurial mindset, and it’s probably too simple actually.

We all have skills that we bring to the table that no one else does in the world does. They might can do it similar to us, better than us, or not as good as we do it, but they simply cannot do what YOU are able to do like YOU are able to do it. That’s our gift… it’s our uniqueness. Bank on that! It’s there for a reason, I always say.

What I find to work for me and I’m sure it works for other’s, is in knowing who I am, my weaknesses, my strengths, my likes, and dislikes; zoning in on those key attributes and allowing them to come through my online presence.

I know what motivates me, I know what it takes to inspire myself, and I also know that in order to be notice in the online world one must surely standout and shine. Where a lot of people fall off the tracks it seems to me is trying to do it like someone else is doing it. Nothing is more boring to me than conformity. I despise someone telling me that I remind them of so and so. That BITES! Everything I do I try to do it original.

In person, one of the things people know about me is that I love colorful socks. Yes, something as simple as socks; it gives me the feeling that I’m doing something no one else has done. There is no exceptions to how loud or how bright they are; if it matches my gear that I’m rocking, then I’m rocking those socks.

Same thing stands for me in the blogosphere, I tend to zone in on that one thing that I can offer that makes people say, “Hmmm, that’s different.” Now, I’m sure some would argue that how I go about blogging or branding myself isn’t the way that they would go about doing it. If they were to tell me that, I’d simply say to myself, “YES!!”

I think as an entrepreneurial you have to know what you can bring to the table that can’t nobody else bring; then ROCK the heck out of it!

I’m learning that everything we do… or think we can’t do lies in our minds. Take the knowledge that someone else is offering and put your own spin on it.

Stay tuned for part 3 next week! Until then, leave me your thoughts about the conversation in the comments below.

What a great interview, Just came to your personal site after Deeone's. So glad I found it, will definitely be bookmarking it, and coming back :) Love your writing, very talented indeed!

Hi there Rochelle,

Glad you're enjoying the interview so far. Definitely have been having a blast going back and forth with Deeone. I've been learning a ton from his life experiences and have really enjoyed connecting with him as well as many of his readers.

Glad you stopped by and thanks for the awesome compliment!

I only recently connected with Deeone on Twitter and for the life of me I can't remember how exactly or through whom but I'm so glad I did!

I love that his writings, comments, and overall air about him is consistent which means I know he's the same lovely, colorful-as-his-socks character offline and I can't wait to meet him in real life one of these days!

Loving the interviews so far - so in depth...both of you guys are great and looking forward to part 3.

FYI - Jeremy, I found your blog through Deeone ;-)

~Kesha

Awwww, Chica you are incredible too. We met through the one of the blogger groups on Facebook. Sadly, I'm not apart of the group any longer though. :(

Nonetheless, I'm still connected with you and a few other awesome bloggers from there. :)
It's been a pleasure getting to know you as well. I can't wait until we do meet. We will certainly cut up for days! :D

I'm so glad that I am responsible for this introduction. That's awesome!! I'm sure you're going to enjoy Jeremy and his motivational content just as much as I have.

All the best to you, Chica! ;)

Hi there Kesha, I'm glad you found me! You're doing some great things over at your blog as well. I always get a chuckle when I read your posts and as we all know laughter = uplifting.

I am loving the interview with Deeone. I knew he had a big, colorful personality and a big wonderful heart to go along with it but who knew about the colorful, rockin sock? lol
This is simply one of the best interviews I've read in a while. Creative thoughtful questions that really bring out who Deeone is. Looking forward to part three!

Glad you're loving the interview so far Bonnie and I appreciate your kind words. Thank you!

He's been keeping his rocking socks from everyone. The secret has been revealed!

I'd have to totally agree with you, Bonnie. Jeremy has had some awesome questions; a lot of which have literally had me wondering has he peeked into my book somehow. LOL I have thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and the guest post that he did for Releasing Me Today. I'd go on to say that, the cyber world might want to keep a close eye on the talent of this guy! I know I will be. :)

I'll be taking some shots of the socks soon. As a matter of fact, now that Christmas is coming up I'm sure I'll be adding to the collection. My partner usually surprises me with some good ones this time of the year. ;)

This is a great interview!! I love the depth of the questions as well as the answers! While reading it I felt as if I was in a room with the two of you, just listening and taking it all in. Very thought provoking and engaging and I agree with many things that were said throughout. Kudos to you both!!

Hi there Melisa,

I'm glad you're enjoying the interview so far! I definitely thought this style would be much more interesting to read than a regular ol Q an A. Judging by all the positive feedback, it's going well.

Glad you stopped by and a BIG thank you for leaving your thoughts!

We've got to get you on the Google, Makeba. I see a very awesome hangout developing. Don't you Jeremy? :D Glad you enjoyed the convo, Chica! :)

I'm always up for a hangout! I actually haven't had the chance to use it yet, so I'm chomping at the bit to try it out!

Awesomeness bud! Again, thank you for the great conversation and for allowing me to be apart of Social2cents. It's truly been a great opportunity for me and also to be able to connect with you further. Your drive and passion for what you do is contagious, and I would advise those that haven't checked you out to definitely watch out for you. You're a remarkable young man with ambition and a will to succeed. I admire you for that and so much more, my friend. Wishing you all the best, Jeremy! This was awesome! :)

Thanks Dee! I appreciate those kind words.

It's people like yourself that inspire me to be more. Always positive and never negative...those are the type of people I want to surround myself with.

By the way, I'm glad that you're utilizing Youtube. I believe that's going to be a dynamite addition to RMT!
